First steps

From enquiry to instruction

Use the enquiry form or email the office, wherever you are. We check for conflicts, tell you whether we can act, and agree costs before work begins.

  1. 01

    Write to us

Give your name, the parties, the countries involved and a short account of what has happened. Put any hearing date or vessel arrest at the top.

  2. 02

    Conflict check

We confirm there is no conflict and that the matter is one we take. If you need a different firm, we say so plainly.

  3. 03

    Costs agreed

Fees and the scope of work are set out before the matter proceeds, in the way the legal profession rules require.

  4. 04

    Your matter team

A responsible partner leads the matter, with the lawyers who will run it day to day. Send contracts, charterparties and correspondence early to save a second round of questions.

A dark conference table, leather chairs, and shelves of books, with a harbour beyond the window.

Matters are taken in conference.

Office hours

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Sydney time. The office is closed Saturday and Sunday. If a hearing is close or a vessel is under arrest, put it in the first line of your message.
